But it becomes frightening when it’s not just a TV commercial – and it really happens in our homes.\nFalls are the leading cause of nonfatal – and fatal – injuries among older Americans, according to the National Council on Aging. Primary causes of falling include balance and gait issues, certain medications, sudden drop in blood pressure, visual impairment, and home hazards. Caregivers also fall due to anxiety, haste, and stress.\nElton Bordenave, PhD, of A.T. Still University, will discuss how you can prevent falls. He also will address dealing with caregiver burn-out to avert accidents.
